Weep Not, Child – Ngugi wa Thiong’o
An extraordinary story about the effects of the Mau Mau war on the lives of ordinary men and women in Kenya. The imagery and humour expressed in a somewhat dark background of insurrection, challenges the reader to always look beyond the obvious. The innocence of youth is contrasted with the deep questions about the ownership of land, the struggle for respect and to be able to stand as a man in your own land. It’s also a story of love in an almost impossible situation.
